Here are some observations about activities at the Club over the last few months - by John D. As we reach the end of the summer we can look back at mixed weather. The hot spell in June probably led us to believe that we were in for a 'scorcher' but July and August were decidedly average- well often wet and windy to be more precise. Nevertheless there was occasional good weather and therefore plenty of modelling 'action'. Mark A could often be seen relaxing on his chair but then suddenly having to leap over to the control box to take over an errant model, presumably caught in an unexpected 'down-draft'! Rob B was conspicuous by his absence (domestic and work issues occupying much of his time). He did however make the odd weekend with a couple of attractive models. In characteristic style Tony treated us to inverted touch and go's and the common toe control landing! Not to mention safely landing Rob's Cub which had been subject to some aerial savagery. Indeed Tony has saved many a doomed model and many owe him a drink or two. Mark S-C was a regular attendee with lots of useful help to aero and heli flyers not to mention his keen eye for safety matters. Johnny and Shane have been awarded the coveted 'B' Certificate proficiency as well as undertaking some public flying events. Jenny and Bob have appeared most weekends. Jenny deserving much credit for the success of the recent BBQ. When not behind the scenes she demonstrates proficient flying skills. Bob surprised everyone by converting to helis after years of vicious criticism and appears to be enjoying it! Jason is now quite an accomplished heli pilot (at least that what he tells us). Larry.....er.......well, Larry continues to enjoy himself and frighten the rest of us. When someone shouts "DUCK" they are not referring to anything with feathers! Either run or adopt the prone position. Roger was much in evidence bringing along a variety of models. Many are built from scratch at least that's how he explains the contents of the bin liner. The Portugal trip is nearing so try and make sure you keep at least one model intact to bring. Safe flying |
