I LEARNT TO FLY FROM THAT

My Ready 2 had performed well all day taking several novices on their first
tentative steps learning to fly.
I love flying my ready and I'm very familiar with it, after all I have been
flying one for the past fours years.
There's not a lot I can't do with it, often taking it to the limits of it's
flight envelope, but nothing could have prepared me for what happened next.
Almost at the end of the days flying, I was asked if I could do one more
flight and give this chap a quick lesson, as he was very keen to join the
club.
A quick explanation on how the controls worked, followed by run up of the
engine and a full control check, the READY was up and flying.
We had only just completed a couple of circuits when the signal was lost and
the model fell to hearth with an almighty bang a few yards from the pits.
The look on the students face said it all, I stood there speechless in
complete disbelief at what had just happened.
We carefully inspected the wreckage for clues to see if we could find the
cause to the tragic end to my beloved Ready.
It didn't take us long to find out. The crystal was lying amongst the
wreckage, no doubt it had become loose due the vibrations of all day flying
and had caused the loss of control and the model.  Now what have I learnt
from this?? I have learnt that it's not enough to just insert the snugly
fitting crystal into the receiver and leave it to the gods to ensure it stays
in place.
The advice I was given, was simple enough. Tape round the receiver making
sure the tape runs over the crystal slot thereby holding it in place.
I sure did learn something about flying from that.
